As a Knoxville wedding photographer, there’s one season that consistently captures my heart — and my camera lens — like no other: fall. From the golden hues blanketing the Smoky Mountains to the crisp, cozy air, fall weddings in Tennessee are pure magic. Tennessee fall weddings bring the air that wraps around each celebration, creating unforgettable moments. If you’re considering saying “I do” between October and November, let me tell you why autumn is the perfect time for unforgettable wedding photos.

The Perfect Weather for Wedding Days and Portraits

Tennessee is known for its distinct seasons, but fall is arguably the most photogenic. By late September, the heavy humidity of summer begins to lift. This change ushers in cooler temperatures that make Tennessee fall weddings much more comfortable for you and your guests. Highs range from the mid-60s to the low 70s in October, while November sees cooler, but still manageable, days with highs in the 50s and 60s.

This mild weather means no sweating through your tux or makeup melting before you make it down the aisle. The air is crisp and clean, giving images a clarity that’s hard to replicate in other seasons. Additionally, overcast skies—which are common in late fall—act like a giant softbox, diffusing light and giving your photos a creamy, dreamy look.

Foliage That Looks Like It Was Made for Wedding Photos

If you’ve ever driven through the Tennessee mountains in the fall, you know the views are breathtaking. Leaves burst into vibrant reds, oranges, and golds, transforming everyday backdrops into works of art. Whether you’re planning a rustic barn wedding or a garden ceremony, the fall foliage provides a natural backdrop. This backdrop requires little to no additional decoration. For Tennessee fall weddings, this natural beauty is a highlight.

As a photographer, I live for this color palette. It enhances skin tones, adds warmth to images, and brings an extra layer of emotion and atmosphere to every shot. When the trees are in full bloom and the golden-hour light hits just right, the result is pure visual poetry.

October–November: Peak Season for Photographers

Here’s something every couple should know: fall is peak season for photographers in Tennessee. Not just for weddings, but for family sessions, senior portraits, engagements — you name it. October and November dates book up fast, often a year (or more) in advance. Many photographers consider Tennessee fall weddings a pinnacle of their seasonal offerings.

If you’re dreaming of a fall wedding, it’s crucial to reach out to your preferred photographer as early as possible. Many of us, myself included, can only take on a limited number of weddings each month. This ensures each couple receives the attention, planning, and editing time they deserve.

I recommend reaching out 9–12 months in advance if you have your heart set on a fall date. That way, we can reserve your day, begin planning your timeline, and scout the best foliage-filled locations for your portraits.

One Word: Football

If you’re new to Tennessee or haven’t yet been swept up in the sea of orange, here’s a helpful tip: University of Tennessee football reigns supreme in the fall. Neyland Stadium comes alive on Saturdays with over 100,000 fans. Game days have a significant impact on everything from traffic to venue availability.

In fact, many local vendors — venues, caterers, and yes, even photographers — book around the home game schedule. Couples who are planning Tennessee fall weddings in or near Knoxville should check the UT football schedule before finalizing a date. It’s a small detail, but it can save you a logistical headache down the road.

Why Book Hayley Howard Photography?

There are plenty of talented photographers in East Tennessee, but here’s what sets Hayley Howard Photography apart: I’m not just capturing your wedding day. Instead, I’m telling your story.

As a mom, wife, and creative who values presence and connection, I approach each wedding with intention and heart. I know how fast these moments fly by, so I focus on the details that matter most. The quiet moments between the chaos and the way your partner looks at you when you think no one’s watching are key details. I capture the tears, the dance floor magic, and much more.

With years of experience photographing weddings and families throughout Knoxville and beyond, I bring a calm, organized energy to your day. I’ll guide you through natural poses that never feel stiff and help you create space for real, emotional moments. You deserve photos that reflect how your wedding day felt. It’s about how it felt, not just how it looked.
