Hi friend — I’m Hayley from Hayley Howard Photography! If you’re considering a family photography session, I’m here to help capture your special moments.

Family Photography Session at Ijams in Knoxville, Tennessee

If you’re here, you’re probably thinking about planning a family photo session. First of all, I’m so glad you’re considering it. Your story, your people, and this moment in your life deserve to be remembered.

One of my favorite places to shoot in East Tennessee is Ijams Nature Center. It’s located just minutes from downtown Knoxville but feels like a peaceful escape. The beauty of Ijams is that it offers so many different settings in one place. Whether you’re dreaming of golden fields, misty riverbanks, or shaded forest trails — Ijams has it all.

Let me walk you through why this place is a dream for family photography and why it might just be the perfect spot for you.

A Little History About Ijams

Ijams has been a beloved part of Knoxville since the early 1900s. Originally the home of Harry and Alice Ijams, this land started as a bird sanctuary. Today, it has grown into a 318-acre nature center dedicated to conservation and community.

Ijams offers over ten miles of trails, a nature playscape, and multiple educational programs for all ages. It’s not just a place to hike — it’s a place to connect with nature, breathe deeply, and slow down. That’s exactly the kind of energy I love to bring into family sessions.

The Variety of Backgrounds at Ijams

One of the biggest reasons I recommend Ijams for photo sessions? The variety. You get so many stunning backdrops in one location. Here are just a few favorites:

  • Open Fields: In the golden hour, the light hits these fields just right. They’re perfect for carefree family moments — running, dancing, and twirling.
  • The Quarry: Mead’s Quarry adds texture and depth to your photos. The still water and stone cliffs feel peaceful and powerful all at once.
  • The Tennessee River: The river trails are perfect for quiet, reflective photos. Think soft hugs, close cuddles, and tender, unposed moments.
  • Wooded Trails: If you’re drawn to the forest, the shaded paths and tall trees give everything a warm, grounded feel. Nature lovers — you’ll feel at home here.
  • Railroad Tracks: There’s a rustic set of tracks tucked into the trees that adds a little edge. Perfect for walking hand-in-hand and capturing genuine connection.

When you schedule a session here, we’ll move through different areas so you get a gallery that’s diverse and cohesive. It’s a built-in adventure for your family.

What to Expect During Your Session

Sessions at Ijams usually last about an hour. That gives us enough time to explore a few different spots and let your family settle into the moment.

I typically meet people at the Quarry entrance of Ijams. It is $5 per car to park unless you are a member at Ijams. You also may purchase an annual parking hangtag for $50 if you think you and your family might come back! For more information about parking or directions, check out their website.

I’ll guide you throughout the entire session, so don’t worry about feeling awkward. I focus on connection, not perfection. You don’t have to “perform” or get your kids to sit still. Just be present. Be yourselves. Let your love lead, and I’ll take care of the rest.

Why Family Photography Matters

I know you’re busy. Life is full and fast. Maybe you’ve got a career you care deeply about. Maybe you’re chasing big goals and juggling a million things.

But friend — these days with your family? They’re sacred. And they’re passing faster than you think.

Photography is a way to slow it all down. It’s a way to hold on to the softness of your toddler’s curls, the way your partner looks at you when you’re not paying attention, or the wild, carefree joy on your kids’ faces.

These moments won’t look the same next year. That’s why investing in family photography matters. You’re not just buying photos. You’re preserving a piece of your legacy.

Why I Do What I Do

I don’t take it lightly when someone invites me into their life with a camera. It’s an honor.

My clients are thoughtful, driven women. They’re passionate about their families, grounded in their values, and serious about making memories that matter.

If that sounds like you, we’ll get along beautifully.

You care about quality — but more than that, you care about meaning. You want images that feel like your family. Not stiff. Not forced. Just honest, beautiful, and real.

That’s what I’m here for.

The Experience You Can Expect With Me

When you book with me, it’s not just about showing up and smiling. I take time to understand your family and what matters most to you.

We’ll talk through location choices, wardrobe ideas, and what kind of vibe you want. I’ll help guide you every step of the way, so you never feel unprepared or unsure.

The day of your session, I’ll meet you with warmth and ease. I know how to gently direct, but also when to let the moment unfold naturally.

Afterward, I’ll deliver a carefully curated gallery that tells your family’s story through color, light, and connection.

Why Ijams Works So Well for Your Family

Choosing Ijams means your session will feel like an adventure — not a chore. Your kids will love exploring the trails and spotting turtles at the quarry. You and your partner will love the stillness.

And with all that natural beauty surrounding you, it’s easy to forget about the camera and focus on each other.

This place helps you feel grounded and present. And that’s exactly the kind of energy that creates lasting images.

How to Book Your Session

If you’re ready to slow down and capture your family with intention, I’d love to work with you.

I typically book family sessions at Ijams in the spring and fall — when the light is soft, and the weather is mild.

To book, head to hayleyhoward.co and click on the “Contact” page. From there, we’ll set up a time, choose your session details, and start planning your shoot.

You can also follow along on Instagram @hayleyhowardphotography to see more from past sessions and stay inspired.

A Final Word, From One Mother to Another

You’re building a beautiful life, balancing ambition and tenderness, and raising little humans while chasing your dreams. That’s no small thing.

Let yourself be seen in this season. You deserve to be in the frame — not just behind the camera on your phone.

Let’s capture your family in the woods, by the water, and in the light. Let’s create something you’ll treasure forever.

With love,
Hayley Howard Photography
