There is nothing more life-changing than becoming a mother.
As a Knoxville maternity photographer and a mother of two, I can say this with complete certainty — pregnancy is beautiful, powerful, and sacred. But it’s also challenging, exhausting, and often overwhelming. Both can be true. And both deserve to be remembered.
When you hire me, Hayley Howard Photography, to document your pregnancy, you’re not just hiring a photographer. You’re hiring someone who gets it. I’ve been there. I’ve walked the path of anticipation, discomfort, and awe. I’ve experienced the highs, the lows, and the quiet in-between moments that often go unseen. My goal is to preserve your story in a way that honors your strength, your softness, and your journey toward motherhood.
Our bodies are incredible. We create and sustain life inside of us. That’s not just poetic — it’s miraculous.
Pregnancy changes everything. Your body shifts and stretches. Your heart makes room for someone you haven’t even met yet. Every heartbeat, every flutter, every inch of growth is a reminder that you’re doing something extraordinary.
When I photograph maternity sessions, I approach them with deep reverence. I see the beauty in your changing shape. I see the sacredness in your stillness. I see the wonder in the waiting. This season is worth documenting, not in spite of the discomfort, but because of it.
My first pregnancy was hard. I threw up nearly every day. Morning, noon, and night — sickness was constant. Toward the end, my blood pressure spiked. Swelling made everything uncomfortable. I was induced out of concern for both of us, and now I am thankful that I got to meet my son 3 weeks early.
My second pregnancy was just as intense — but in different ways. My sinuses were a mess. Breathing felt like a chore. And this time, I had a toddler to chase around. There were moments when I felt utterly depleted. But even in that exhaustion, I knew something remarkable was happening inside of me.
Each pregnancy reminded me that women do hard things — every single day. We carry life. We nurture it. And we sacrifice so much of ourselves to make it possible. That is not something small. That is something divine.
As a social worker, I’ve seen how powerful it can be for women to feel seen and validated during their pregnancy. This time is emotional, physical, and deeply personal. And unfortunately, we often brush it aside.
But documenting this season isn’t vanity — it’s honor. It’s a way of saying, “I see you. I honor what you’re going through. I want to remember this.”
Maternity photography helps you connect with your body and your baby. It gives you a chance to slow down, breathe deeply, and be present. It’s a form of self-care — a pause in the chaos to reflect on the miracle unfolding inside you.
I’m not just talking about the changes you see in the mirror. I’m talking about how pregnancy transforms you from the inside out.
You’re becoming a mother. Your identity is expanding. Your perspective is shifting. You’re making space for someone new, while still trying to hold onto yourself.
That’s why I take such care in how I photograph maternity sessions. I don’t just pose you. I guide you to feel beautiful, connected, and calm. I want you to see the strength in your eyes. The softness in your hands. The joy in your anticipation.
These photos are not just for now — they’re for later. They’re for when your baby is grown and asks, “What was it like when I was in your belly?” They’re for the moments when you need to remember just how powerful you are.
My background in social work has taught me how much mental health impacts the pregnancy experience.
Pregnancy isn’t just physical. It’s emotional, hormonal, and spiritual. It affects your energy, your thoughts, and your self-perception. Many women experience anxiety, guilt, or fear. Others carry trauma, uncertainty, or loneliness.
One of the best things you can do for your baby is to care for yourself. That includes nourishing your body, prioritizing rest, and surrounding yourself with support — including support that reminds you how beautiful and capable you are.
A maternity session can be a healing experience. It’s an intentional moment to embrace your body and your journey. It’s a reminder that you are doing enough, that you are enough, even on the hard days.
I don’t just take photos — I create space for you to feel grounded, confident, and cared for.
As a photographer, I focus on natural light, genuine connection, and real moments. I’ll never make you feel stiff or over-posed. Instead, I guide you gently so that you look and feel like you. Beautiful, glowing, strong you.
As a mom, I bring empathy and understanding. I know what it’s like to be uncomfortable, tired, and unsure. I also know how amazing it feels to see yourself in a photo and think, “Wow. That’s me.”
As a social worker, I bring compassion and presence. I know how important it is to feel safe and supported. My sessions are peaceful, calm, and full of grace.
My ideal client is a thoughtful, ambitious woman. She has big dreams and deep values. She might be introverted, but she thrives in meaningful relationships. She’s grounded in her faith, guided by love, and sees beauty in the small things.
If that’s you — I would be honored to document your story.
Pregnancy doesn’t last forever. But its impact does.
Years from now, when your little one is running through the backyard or crawling into your lap, you’ll look back on this season with awe. You’ll remember the anticipation, the hope, the wonder. And when you see these photos, you’ll remember how strong and beautiful you were — even when you didn’t feel it.
Let’s slow down. Let’s create something meaningful. Let’s honor the incredible work your body is doing.
If you’re looking for a Knoxville maternity photographer who will treat your story with the care and reverence it deserves, I would love to connect.
